About the Artist

Photo by Alystyre Julian © 2022
My work poetically weaves together geological, archaeological and cultural histories in the twilight of memory, artifact and dreams. I engage a multitude of perspectives, in collaboration with artists across disciplines and cultures, to explore and reframe the flow of ideas through society in meaningful ways.
As a painter, I extend my form into other media and view my work as a living organism that adapts and shifts in response to its environment, always in conversation with what I encounter. The portability, repurposing, and malleability of my elements toggle between the world we live in and the privacy of our imaginations. My work crosses disciplines, media, and geography to generate a myriad of potential narratives, both singular and collective.
Jo Wood-Brown is a painter and multimedia artist working in Lower Manhattan for the past four decades.
